Saba Khan | DeccanDigest: After the constant targeting of Muslims regarding Namaz and other festivities, this year the Hindutvavadi terrorists all over India trained guns on Christmas. According to a report released in October, there were more than 300 documented attacks on Christians across India in the first nine months of 2021. The NDA government has been accused to hamper the festivities around Christmas through Good governance Day and other host of governmental and semi governmental program.
But this year the RightWing hate mongers went ahead to sabotage Christmas. Leading the Charge was the Karnataka CM and His Govt, who exacerbated the attacks on Christians by proposing and legislating Anti-Conversion Bill right at the time of Christmas. The Bommai Govt pushed the narrative against Christians and then tried to push the Law against Conversions without any consultation or preparation despite knowing that they lack the numbers, and thankfully the law was deferred due to lacking of Numbers in Legislative Council, But by then the Damage has been done, and Christians have been effectively maligned targeted and attacked.
Sensing the Situation Many churches in Karnataka cancelled their Christmas celebration following threats by Right wing goons. those who didnt, came under severe pressure, surveillance and at some places under attack.
And When the Christmas arrived, Hate went national.
At the infamous Haridwar Geocidal meeting, Some of the seers also warned Haridwar administration against allowing Christmas celebration in Hotels and Commercial establishment in the district.
Naomi Barton writing in an article in The Wire, Said that Hindutva Brigade Disrupted atleast 7 Christmas Events Across India. Incidents of anti-Christian protests, ruckus and misdemeanor perpetrated by RW Hindutva org were reported both in lead up to and on Christmas Day, across states. But DeccanDigest was able to get info on around 10 such incidents from the Internet Reports. The Situation got so out of hands that Le Monde France, The Guardian England and scores of other international publications started to write about it.
Karnataka leads the charge down the rabbit hole
After Bommai-Mutalik Bonhomie, as if on a cue, Right-wing goons in Karnataka, the So-called IT hub and cosmopolitan State, led in attacks against its own hapless minority and that they did with glaring impunity, as if someone had tied the police to a tree or pole. Bajrang Dal workers barged into a Christian prayer hall in Hasan district, Karnataka disrupting prayer and alleged religious conversion. Pastor Yellappa of Belagavi district, Karnataka said he was forced to shut down his house church after his Landlord received multiple threats from radicals. The Christmas celebrations at the Nirmala English High School in pandawapura of Mandya, Karnataka was allegedly interrupted by a group of Hindu Jagran Vedike activists on Thursday. One of event was not even organized by the school but the children as they wanted some escape from the Covid boredom.
In the Fascism-Hindutva Laboratory Uttar Pradesh, Effigy of Santa Claus was burned in Agra on friday by Bajrang Dal members claiming mythical figure to be part of “strategy” by Christian missionaries to convert people. the members of right wing Hindu groups did this outside missionary-led schools and accused Christian missionaries of using Christmas celebrations to lure people in. A Christmas event that is held every year at Matridham Ashram in Chandmari district of Varanasi Uttar Pradesh was also targeted by a Hindu vigilante group who stood outside shouting slogans such as “stop conversions” and “missionary murdabad”, meaning “death to missionaries”.
Meanwhile in Madhyapradesh which has overtaken both UP and Haryana in state sponsored Nazism, Rameshwar Sharma a BJP legislature in Madhya Pradesh, while addressing a crowd called for a “Chadar mukt, Father mukt Bharat” (India free of veil- wearing muslim and Christian priest).
Just below the Nose of Amit Shah A warehouse turned into a church in New Delhi was vandalized and mass disrupted by shouting “shoot the traitors” on Sunday by Bajrang Dal activists.
Haryana, the new cesspool of RW hatemongering too didn’t disappoint to those who were expecting, and the Christmas prayers were also interrupted by Right wing activists in Gurugram, yes, the same city where they spread cowdung to stop people from praying. In Ambala, Statue of Jesus Christ has been vandalized by miscreants at Holy Redeemer Church which was constructed in 1848 during British Era. An evening celebration at a school in Pataudi was disrupted by members of a right wing Hindu vigilante group. Storming into the school shouting slogans such as “Jai Shri Ram”.
In Assam, two protesters in saffron, the signature colour of Hindutva nationalism, entered a Presbyterian church on Christmas night and disrupted proceedings, demanding that all Hindus leave the building.
And these are just the stories, that went Viral. In India, and Karnataka Particularly, Merry Christmas was anything but merry, and most of the Churches avoided Masses. In her tweet, Naomi Barton, Sums up the situation of what the Christian community Felt this Christmas.
I'm not going to lie.
Today, I woke up on Christmas morning, and it didn't feel like Christmas.
I went to sleep last night monitoring right wing pages for violence against Christmas mass in Uttarakhand as promised, and woke up to people saying "Santa Go Back."
But.
