Gujarat, once dubbed as the most developed state of India by the BJP when Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, was ruling, today paints a grim picture when it comes to recovery of the covid-19 infected patients. Narendra Modi, the former Chief Minister of Gujarat, rose to power at the center by projecting ‘Gujarat model of development’ to the country. However, today Gujarat’s rate at which covid-19 infected patients have got cured has gone from bad to worse with the number of Covid-19 cases having swelled and deaths having increased. As of April 22, 5 pm, India reported 20,471 positive cases, as per the official website of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. As many as 3,960 persons have been discharged across the country. This means 19 per cent of the total positive cases in India have recovered till now. While BJP ruled Gujarat has the lowest recovery rate in the country, with just 6.3 per cent or 144 cases of the total 2,272 cases having been declared recovered.

On the other hand, CPI (M) ruled Kerala, which reported the first Covid-19 positive, case has shown a remarkable recovery rate, with 75 per cent of the patients having recovered. Of the 427 cases reported till date, 307 have recovered and just 3 persons have passed away. While Maharashtra with the highest number of cases in the country at 5,221 cases has the recovery rate of 13 per cent with 722 recovered patients from the infection. The major cities of Gujarata, Ahmedabad, Surat, and Vadodra have 1,434, 364 & 207 cases respectively, the top three cities of Gujarat account for 88 per cent of state’s total cases. However, the recovery rate of Ahmedabad is 3.9 per cent with 56 people cured, the recovery rates of Surat and Vadodara are 3 and 3.8 per cent as per the statistics from the State government’s official website.
