Bidar: Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police (ASI), Baswaraj, attached to Humnabad (Taluk) Town Police Station in Bidar district has been suspended for beating up a man, Hafiz Muhammed Naseer, who has ventured out to buy vegetables on his two-wheeler in Humnabad Taluk of Bidar district. The incident occured today morning at around 7.30-8 am, at Kellur Road-Humnabad by-pass when Naseer came out of his house and was moving towards his friend’s house to buy vegetables. When the ASI saw him coming near the by-pass, he asked Naseer to go back but allowed others to proceed ahead. When Naseer saw others being allowed to pass through the road, he came back behind a heavy vehicle to cross the by-pass seeing which the ASI charged at him and started beating up with baton (lathi). When Naseer tried to dodge the baton, it hit him at his nose. When Naseer started to bleed heavily, the ASI asked onlookers to put some water on his nose and retorted “nothing has happened, he will be alright”. Naseer has also accused the ASI of using foul language and hurling abuses at him. Naseer added that the ASI blurted at him “it is because of people like you, the coronavirus is getting spread in India.” Acoording to Naseer, he was attacked for being a Muslim as he is bearded, and was wearing skull cap and kurta pyjama. Naseer is an Imam (one who leads prayer in mosque) in a local mosque.

ASI Suspended

Speaking to deccandigest.com, the Superintendent of Police (SP) Bidar, Nagesh D.L informed that the ASI has been suspended and an inquiry has been initiated in the incident. Mr Nagesh further confirmed that Naseer suffered injury on the delicate part of his nose because of which there was heavy bleeding. “If deliberate or accidental, the cause of the incident is yet not known, and can be known only after completion of the inquiry,” added Mr Nagesh.
