Hyderabad | Saba Khan : Comedians Munawar Faruqui and Kunal Kamra are welcome to perform in Hyderabad where their shows “will not be cancelled” said K.T Rama Rao Telangana state IT Minister who also happen to be son of Chief Minister KCR.

While addressing an event in Hyderabad on friday KTR also took a dig at neighbouring state where Faruqui’s last show was cancelled in Bengaluru last month after organisers received a letter from Bengaluru police citing ‘law and order’ situation and also called Faruqui a ‘controversial figure’.

Later on Faruqui was also dropped from a Comedy Festival held at Gurgaon on grounds of ‘public safety’. All this controversy started earlier this year when Faruqui was allegedly stopped from performing in a live show in Indore on the grounds of ‘insulting Hindu dieties’ by Ekalavya Singh Gaud son of Indore BJP MP.

Days after Faruqui’s show was cancelled in Bengaluru Kunal Kamra also claimed on his social media account that his shows were also being cancelled in the city after Organisers received threats.

However KTR also stated that “ We truly are welcoming. I am saying this to those people of Bengaluru, you claim to be a cosmopolitan city and end up taking comedy very seriosly, I don’t understand at all”.

Hyderabad today is welcoming people from all over the country and all over the world, We truly are a cosmopolitan city. In our city stand-up comedians get an open invite we do not cancel shows of Munawar Faruqui and Kunal Kamra just because we’re not aligned with them politically.

KTR added up “We welcome all cultures and criticism, you can come here and criticise the government. In fact, we receive a lot of brickbats from our opposition everyday but we are very tolerant”.
