Telangana’s Razia Rides 1,400 km On Scooty To Bring Back Stranded Son

Hyderabad: Razia Begum (48) rode nearly 1,400 on a scooter over three days to bring her stranded son back home from Nellore in Andhra Pradesh to Bodhan in Telangana amid the nationwide lockdown.

Razia took the grueling task alone on Monday, April 6 morning and set off her journey with local police and returned back to hometown with her son on Wednesday evening, a reflection of a mother’s strong grit and love for her son.

Razia reached Nellore the next day afternoon on Tuesday and left for the hometown on the same day along with her son.

Razia took the journey with a pack of “rotis” and made stops at fuel stations and other points to quench her thirst along the way.

“It was a difficult journey on a small two-wheeler for a woman. But the determination to bring my son back overtook all my fears. I packed rotis and they kept me going. It was fearsome in the nights with no traffic movement and no people on roads,” Razia told told PTI on Thursday.

She is a headmistress at a government school in Nizamabad, about 200 kms from Hyderabad. Razia Begum has lost her husband 15 years ago, lives with her two sons, an engineering graduate, and 19-year old Nizamuddin, who aspires to become a doctor.

On March 12 Nizamuddin went to Rahamatabad in Nellore district to drop his friend and stayed back there. In the meantime, the lockdown was announced and Nizamuddin could not return. After hearing Nizamuddin who was desperate to return home, a restless Razia took the daunting task on herself. She didn’t send her elder son fearing police backlash mistaking him going for a joy ride.
