Muslim Youth Beaten Up In Delhi On Suspicion of Spreading COVID-19

New Delhi: In yet another case of hate crime against Muslim linked to coronavirus, a 22-year-old Muslim youth, Mehboob Ali, was beaten up in Delhi’s Bawana on Sunday after he was suspected of a conspiracy to spread COVID-19, police informed on Wednesday. A video of Mehboob getting kicked in the stomach with legs by the lynch mob has gone viral since then. He is a resident of Harewali village in Bawana, the police said.

According to the police, Mehboob has visited Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh and returned to Delhi, after 45 days, in a vegetable’s truck, he is suspected to have attended a Tablighi Jamaat program in Bhopal. When he reached his village, rumours spread that Mehboob has plans to spread coronavirus in the village. The victim was held at the vegetable market of Azadpur and released after a medical examination. Three persons have been arrested and a case has been booked.
