Bidar: The elections of Basavakalyan CMC Chairman and Vice-Chairman Posts which were being touted as prestige battle for Congress Due to passing away of its extremely popular MLA B NarayanRao. Congress retained its stronghold by winning chairman post comfortably. Congress nominee & Ward No19 Councilor, Mrs Naheda Sultana (W/o Afsar Saheb) won the Council chairman elections by taking 26 votes. Her Nomination supported by INC (19), AIMIM(3), JDS (3), WPI (1) councilors.
Meanwhile since the Vice Chairman post was reserved for SC woman Category, AIMIM and BJP being only parties which had the councilors in said category, the election turned AIMIM vs BJP battles. Congress Leadership in the last moment decided to back the AIMIM Nominee Meena RamRao Godbole w/o RamRao Godbole of wardno 2. She garnered 23 Votes with 18 INC, 2 JDS, 3AIMIM and 1 WPI councilors backing her.
BJP had expected a split in Basavakalyan Congress councilors and for that matter Even the Bidar MP who is a Voter in the CMC elections was called to participate, But the congress leadership held its fort and all its councilors except one voted for Majlis to defeat BJP.
