Gulbarga: Gulbarga North MLA Kaneez Fatima strongly condemned the assent given by the Governor to the controversial and draconian anti-slaughter ordinance. Terming the decision an anti-poor and unfortunate one, she said that the Hon’ble Governor being a Constitutional authority should have taken into consideration the issues put forward by majority of the people of the state who shall be affected by this ordinance.
Calling the Act in contravention of Supreme Courts observation she said that the Supreme Court had warned the Central Government couple of days ago & held in an observation that cattle transportation rules which allow authorities to seize vehicles used in cattle transportation and send the animals to Gaushalas or cow shelters should be repealed or they will strike them down, yet Governor of Karnataka Passing such ordinance which has even more wrong clauses than the one slammed by Courts.
She said that this act violates several fundamental rights such as Right to Privacy, Right to Freedom, Right Freedom of Religion, Right To Constitutional Remedy and others. She said that is ironic the act that infringes upon so many fundamental rights was passed by infringing upon the sacred rights of Legislative Assembly & Council by passing the act by misleading the MLAs first and then failing in Council and then passing it by using the questionable way of passing an ordinance.
She also called the act replete with clauses which are unworkable and unacceptable, She said that the ordinance is an attack on the farmers, Minorities of Karnataka and State exchequer. “The current ordinance is nowhere intended to protect the cattle of the state instead it makes the cattle rearing a burden over Farmers who cannot rotate their cattle and is a severe damage to the state’s rural economy.” she said.
She also pointed out to recent media reports where Allahabad High court termed these kind of draconian laws as harassment tools against the minorities and said that such laws only open up a Pandora Box by legalizing mob lynching and increasing avenues of corruption by police and other departments.”
Criticizing the anti-minority stand taken up by BS Yeddyurappa she accused that is his way of dealing with shakiness of his rule. She said that “It has become a norm in BJP to attack and isolate minorities especially Muslims to divert attention from their economic failures and especially by the Chief Ministers whose chairs are in threat. The anti-Muslim agenda is being used to whip up polarization and communalization of Society and rally party’s hardliners.”
“We shall not be scared and we will take every socio-legal step that is possible to get these laws struck down” she concluded.
