Gulbarga : Following a row on Krishna Janmashtmi, the SDPI Gulbarga have Submitted a memorandum to Karnataka Government opposing the manner in which the Government is planning to celebrate the Sri Krishna Janmashtmi. The SDPI Gulbarga also opposed the Imposition of doing POOJA on Krishna Janmastami in all the schools and colleges and Government offices in the Gulbarga District by the District administration is unconstitutional.
In a Press statement Abdul Raheem Patel who led the delegation to Gulbarga DC said "first through media then a Government order, We came to know that, on the instructions of the Karnataka State Government, Gulbarga administration arranged a meeting regarding celebration of Krishna Janmasthami on 7th August 2017 in DC office, Gulbarga under the guidance of Mr Bhimashankar Tegdi, Additional Deputy Commissioner. Also present in the meeting were Mr Prakash Chincholikar Grade 2 Tehsildar, Mrs Geeta Sagnoor, Assistant Director Kannada & Cultural department and Mr Ravindra odhnoor ( Yadav samaj, District President.
Following things were discussed and ordered by the Gulbarga District administration to be celebrated as part of the celebration in the district.
1. A procession from Timmapuri chowk to Rang mandir along with the portrait of Shri Krishna to be taken out on 14th August with devotional songs and bhajans.
2. A cultural program to be organized in Rang mandir.
3. Directions from the District administration to DDPI to do POOJA keeping portrait of Shri Krishna in all the schools and colleges.
4. Directions from the District administration to all the government offices in the district to do POOJA in their respective department keeping portrait of Shri Krishna."
Elaborating on SDPIs opposition to the decision Patel added "With due respect, we don’t have any problem in the above 2 decisions taken by the Gulbarga administration in helping and supporting the yadav community in celebrating the Shri Krishna Janamashtami. But, we have objections to the 3rd and 4th order by the administration.
As per our Indian constitution, Government cannot not have a religion in particular. They by themselves cannot celebrate any religion or do POOJA of a particular God. Only they can support and provide facilities to the people in helping to celebrate their any festivals, do POOJA in their respective GODS and perform their customs and beliefs.
Celebrating jayanti’s of freedom fighters and Mahapurush is different from celebrating and doing POOJA of a particular God. This time it is Shri Krishna, Next time it will Shri Ganesha, Shri Vishnu, Shri Ram, Shiva, etc. This kind of endorsing by the Government itself is not good for our society, because many people may not endorse this kind of imposition of doing pooja of others God’s on them."
Gulbarga District Secretary of Popular Front of India Shaik Aejaz Ali who accompanied the SDPI team added "We do not have any problem in celebration of Shri Krishna Janamasthmi by our Yadav community brothers, we request the Government and District administration to support and help Yadav community in providing all the facilities such as Monetory, Security and other assistance so that can celebrate without any problem. But, kindly do not impose it on other citizens of India.
Hope you will take above objections and recommendation in right spirit and in accordance to the Constitution of India."
