RAICHUR||THEHINDU :At least six persons were injured in a clash between two groups following political enmity in Idapanur village of Raichur taluk late on Sunday night.
According to information reaching here, both the groups belonged to the Congress.
The injured have been admitted to Raichur Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) in Raichur and they are said to be out of danger.
The situation in the village turned tense when Bhimanna, who is a follower of Shankrappa Naik, taluk panchayat member, said to be under the influence of alcohol, started abusing Guryayya Naik, block president of the Congress over issues related to politics, sources said
Responding to him, Guryayya Naik and others allegedly assaulted him. Following this, Shankrappa Naik and others went to Idapanur police station to register a complaint against Guryayya Naik and others.
When the matter came to his knowledge, Guryayya Naik and his followers went to the police station. As the two groups came face to face, they started attacking each other with iron rods causing injuries on both sides, the sources added.
The police, who rushed to the spot, brought the situation under control and shifted the injured to hospital.
The police registered a case and a counter case against 39 persons from both sides following complaints lodged by Guryayya Naik and Shankrappa Naik, who are accused in these cases.
Meanwhile, the police arrested 19 persons from both sides in connection with the case.
The situation in the village is under control. However, adequate police force has been deployed for security. Personnel of the District Armed Reserve are present at the spot, the sources said.
Chetan Singh Rathod, Superintendent of Police, S.B. Patil, Additional Superintendent of Police, Harish, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Suresh Talwar, Circle Inspector of Police of Yergera, Ravinath, Circle Inspector of Police of Raichur Rural and others visited the spot.
