GULBARGA|| THEHINDU : Congress Leader in the Lok Sabha M. Mallikarjun Kharge has said that the Union government has approved an additional ring road for Kalaburagi.
Addressing presspersons here on Sunday, Mr. Kharge said that the 40-km outer ring road will be set up at a cost of ₹1,100 crore and will connect NH 150E and NH 50.
“The proposed alignment has been approved by the Union government. It will now be given to a consultancy service provider to prepare a detailed project report. After that it will go for administrative and technical approvals before calling for a final bid,” he said.
The road is expected to reduce traffic congestion in Kalaburagi as the outgoing vehicles (to Hyderabad, Mumbai and other cities) could be diverted through it bypassing the city, he added.
Mr. Kharge said that another proposed national highway project, between Vijayapura in Karnataka and Hyderabad in Telangana, had also been approved by the Union government.
The 385-km NH, connecting Sindagi, Bhimarayanagudi, Yadgir and Gurmatkal towns with Hyderabad and Vijayapura, will boost economic development in the region, he said.
Mr. Kharge said that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had accepted his five demands, including increasing allocations to the Hyderabad Karnataka Regional Development Board from ₹1,000 crore to ₹1,500 crore in the 2017-18 budget. The others were completing the Sannati Lift Irrigation Project by allocating the remaining ₹300 crore, sanctioning a medical college to Yadgir, establishing skill development centres in Yadgir and Shahabad and building a memorial of freedom fighter Kolur Mallappa in Yadgir.
