Bidar, dhns: Demanding separate status of religion for the Lingayat sect, a massive rally is being planned in Bidar on July 19 from Lingayat Co-ordination Committee in the district, Bhalki Hiremath Samasthan Swamiji Sri Basavalinga Pattadevuru said.
Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday, he said, apart from religious heads of Lingayats, community members from various districts and from neighbouring Sates will also take part. Around two lakh participants are expected for the mega rally, he added.
On using the term of Veerashaivya Lingayat jointly, seer Pattadevuru noted that one should not use the phrase jointly which could create hurdles to get the status of separate religion constitutionally. Instead of it, phrase of Lingayat must be used, he said.
New Delhi Basava Mantap Sri Channabasavanand Swamiji said, the decade old struggle to get separate religion status to Lingayats has reached to its logical conclusion. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has promised of doing the needful in this regards, he added.
Religious leaders Beldal Sharana, Basava Prabhu Swamiji, Bhatambara Sri and others were present.
