Swabhimana Janata Sangha and Vishvavidyalaya Shuddheekarana Horata Samiti have alleged that three professors of different colleges in the city presented ‘copied’ theses for their PhDs.
Sangha district president Rupam Das and Samiti president Prof R K Hudagi told reporters here on Sunday that while two professors submitted the same thesis to Gulbarga University (GU), another one submitted it to the Jawaharlal Technological University (JNTU), Hyderabad.
They said a professor at V G Women’s College submitted a mathematics thesis to GU in 1998 for her Ph.D. Out of nine chapters, two had already been published in an international journal.Later, the professor’s husband submitted a paper to the Mathematical Engineering Department of JNTU with some chapters copied from his wife’s thesis, they claimed.
A few years later, a research scholar under the guidance of the original author of the paper submitted a thesis to GU with some chapters copied from the first thesis, they said.“While the husband of the original author of the thesis is a professor at PDA Engineering College, her student is a mathematics professor at Bi-Bi Raja Degree College for Women.
A complaint with regard to malpractice will be submitted to the respective universities, UGC, AICTE, the state government and the Lokayukta,” they said.Das and Hudagi asked the managements of the three colleges to suspend the professors within 48 hour. Students’ unions will be approached to shut the colleges if they are not suspended, they added.
A public interest litigation will also be filed in the High Court, they said.Meanwhile, GU V-C E T Puttaiah told Express that an inquiry into the alleged malpractice will be conducted if a complaint is received.
