Political hypocrisy to continue as BJP Firm on ‘Tainted’ Ministers

BELAGAVI: Demanding that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah drop three ‘tainted’ ministers from the Cabinet, the BJP on Thursday staged a dharna in the Council.

After its plea for a debate on ministers Dinesh Gundurao, Mahadev Prasad and Qamarul Islam whom it described as tainted was not allowed under Rule 306, BJP members displayed placards and shouted slogans against the government and the ministers forcing the Chairman to adjourn the Council for 10 minutes.

After the House convened again, the BJP members entered the well of the House and protested. The Chairman then adjourned the House till Friday.

Earlier, Opposition leader K S Eshwarappa moved an adjourment motion and said that he had given notice to the Chairman and all the three ministers concerned. He demanded that the matter be taken up for discussion under Rule 306.

However, floor leader and IT/BT Minister S R Patil, referring to Rule 307, argued that the notices should also be given to the  departments of the three ministers.

He said that under Rule 307 matters which were pending in the courts should not be discussed on the floor of the House and urged the Chairman not to allow a discussion.

When Patil gave copies showing that the cases against the ministers were in the courts, the Chairman said that he would verify the authenticity of the copies and take a decision on Friday.

The BJP has decided to continue the stir both inside and outside the House till its demands are met.

Later at a press conference, the BJP leaders said that though ministers Dinesh Gundurao, Mahadeva Prasad and Qamarul Islam have not denied the charges against them, the government was not expelling them from the Cabinet.
