BJP members led by their leader K.S. Eshwarappa in the Legislative Council on Tuesday decided to move a privilege motion against Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister H.K. Patil and Housing Minister M. Krishnappa for “misleading” the House with wrong statements on the issue of identifying beneficiaries under Basava housing scheme.
Opposing the government’s circular authorising vigilance committees headed by legislators to identify beneficiaries under the scheme, the members demanded that the circular be withdrawn immediately.
The gram sabhas, which were earlier vested with the power of identifying beneficiaries, should be re-entrusted with the task, said Kota Srinivasa Poojary, who raised the issue during Zero Hour. The issue rocked the House when there was no specific reply from the government. The members, who initially staged a dharna in the well of the House, later boycotted the proceedings opposing the government’s reluctance to withdraw the circular.
“Although, Mr. Patil had earlier admitted that the circular was in violation of the rules, he along with the Housing Minister changed their statement in the afternoon, and said there was no violation of rules. They have misled the House by giving wrong statements as the circular goes against the Panchayat Raj Act,” Mr. Eshwarappa said.
He said the members would move a privilege motion against the two Ministers.
