The supporters of Qamarul Islam, who was shunted out of the State Cabinet, continued their tirade against the Congress leaders here on Monday. The supporters have even called for a Kalaburagi bandh on June 25 demanding the reinstatement of Mr. Islam in the Cabinet.
Supporters of Mr. Islam, led by Kalaburagi Urban Development Authority chairman Mohammad Asgar Chulbul, met at a marriage hall in this regard here.
They asked Mr. Islam, who was also present in the meeting, to resign from the primary membership of the Congress and also resign from the Legislative Assembly.
Mr. Chulbul said that Mr. Islam, who left for Bengaluru to hand over the files pertaining to his department to the officials concerned, would be leaving for New Delhi to meet AICC Vice-President Rahul Gandhi and AICC General Secretary Ahmed Patel to bring to their knowledge the conspiracy to sideline him from the party and also alienate Muslims from the party.
Several office-bearers of the party at different-levels and corporators of the Kalaburagi Mahanagara Palike submitted their resignation from the primary membership of the party and their posts to Mr. Islam at the meeting. Mr. Chulbul said Mr. Islam has told his supporters that a final decision on the future course of action would be taken after meeting the central leaders of the party. He expressed his willingness to resign from the membership of the Assembly and from the party along with his supporters.
According to Mr. Chulbul, prominent among those who submitted their resignation letters to Mr. Islam are Deputy Mayor Sharanamma Bennur and party’s district minority cell president Waheed Ali Fateh, who is also a syndicate member of Gulbarga University.
