Gulbarga/Bangalore : Youth Leader & Close aide of Former Cabinet Minister Dr Alhaj Qamar ul Islam Marhoom, Afzaal Mehmood called upon Congress to do justice with the Minorities especially With Muslims and field 5 Muslim candidates From Karnataka in Loksabha elections this time around. He also submitted a memorandum in this regard to Mr Dinesh Gundu Rao KPCC President in Bangalore. He was accompanied by Hyderabad Karnataka Minorities vice Chairman Mr Meraj KalyanWala.
A Congressi from around 2 deacdes, Afzaal Mehmood, (Whose Father was the First Muslim Mayor of Gulbarga ) began his campaign for Justice to Muslims in Political representation petitioned to state President on this sensitive issue with solid points and Socio Political grounds. He will meet many more Congress leaders in the KPCC and AICC in following month With Same Demands. Currently the KPCC fields 1-2 Muslims in Karnataka in Bengaluru Central and Haveri, the number came down to two after the Gulbarga was reserved for SC. Mr Dinesh Gundu Rao KPCC President told him that he will look. Into the matter with more open mind and consider the points raised by the team.
On a telephonic conversation with DeccanDigest.com, Afzaal Mehmood stated it’s high time that Minorities are given Real Deal in the representation. If the Government in the centre changes without increase in the Muslim representation, then it will be defeat of BJP but victory of RSS. The Congress must walk the talk and Ensure inclusive representation.
He also added that there are 5 seats in Karnataka where a Minority candidate can be fielded and expected to win with support of other voting groups of AHINDA. Mangalore (DK) seat have the highest concentration of Minority voters, followed by Bangalore Central and Bidar, then Haveri and Dharwad. The Congress had fielded a same candidate in DK district who have lost repeatedly by BJP , this time. He can be replaced with a Minority candidate.
BIDAR where Muslims form the Largest voting Block have been denied its due, this time the AHINDA Block have delivered a thumping Majority in Bidar for Congress and JDS, bedrock of which was Minorities, so its necessary that they be rewarded with their right. Bangalore Central has always been a minority seat except for past couple of elections where internal sabotage and communal polarization have led to defeat of Minority candidates. But this time around the people are willing to go with Congress if assembly elections are considered. He said.
In Haveri a Muslim Candidate has lost the election last time with a Respectable Margin ( around 6% ) even in a charged atmosphere and huge anti incumbency against the UPA . Dharward District is another in the list which has muslims as the largest voting block and along with AHINDA Votes can easily be won.
All in all, it’s a good time to bring the Minorities in mainstream, and compensate for the lack of representation of Muslim MPs from the state. He concluded expressing his optimism about the outcome of his campaign.
