Election officials seized goods, worth Rs. 1.5 crore, waiting to be distributed to voters in Belagavi city on Sunday.

Flying surveillance squad members raided a building under construction near Hanuman circle and seized 7,320 iron boxes, 1,789 pressure cookers, 1,153 gas stoves and a van used to carry them.

They had the photo and name of Congress leader Laxmi Hebbalkar, who is hoping to contest from Belagvi Rural constituency.

A case has been filed under IPC and Representation of People’s Act.

The raid followed a confession by those who were caught caught carrying a truckload of pressure cookers on Saturday.

After obtaining the confession, police got a warrant to search the house and raided it.

In another incident, FSS members seized 2,000 sarees in Hulkund in Ramdurg taluk on Sunday morning. The sarees were kept in a rented house. A case has been registered in Ramdur police station.
