Centre promises IIIT in Raichur

NEW DELHI: The Centre has promised establishment of an Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) under the public-private-partnership (PPP) mode in Raichur district.

“We are going to sanction establishment of IIIT in Raichur. It will be set up in PPP mode,” Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Prakash Javadekar told reporters here on Wednesday.

The minister’s assurance came after a many protests, struggles of people of the HK Region delegation of leaders from Karnataka, including MPs, handed over a memorandum seeking establishment of the institute in Raichur.

This would be the second IIIT in Karnataka under the PPP framework after Dharwad which began functioning from the 2016-17 academic session.

The minister said the Centre will provide all support for establishing a new IIIT in Raichur, which is a backward area under the Hyderabad-Karnataka region. “We will earmark Rs 200 crore for the establishment of the institute,” he said.

Union minister Ananth Kumar, MPs Pralhad Joshi, Karadi Sanganna, ex-MLA Abhay Patil and MLA Laxman Savadi were part of the delegation which called on the HRD minister.
