RAICHUR: Aspirants for contesting the elections from Raichur (ST) Lok Sabha seat are in galore in both Congress and BJP, but this large number has turned to be a head ache for the respective party leaders to choose the best among them. Especially the number of ticket seekers in Congress is so large that even many outsiders are eyeing on this constituency .
Increase in demand for the Congress ticket has soared after the 2013 assembly elections with Congress winning four of the eight assembly segments falling in this Lok Sabha seat. In addition to this, Raichur basically being a Congress bastion has made the ticket seekers to lobby hard for the party ticket as they are of the firm belief that winning is rest assured once they get a ticket. As on today there are at least eight serious tickets seekers in Congress of them four are former legislators or parliament members. Congress ticket seekers include former Chitradurga MP and film actor Shashikumar, former MLC V S Ugrappa, former legislator Rayappa Naik, retired agriculture officer V S Patil who is the father in law of excise minister Satish Jarkiholi and B V Naik son of former lok sabha member and present Deodurga legislator Venkatesh Naik ,also brother in law of Satish Jarkiholi . But the outsider tag attached to Shashikumar and Ugrappa has hampered their chances of getting the party ticket .
If this is the situation in Congress, in BJP also the ticket seekers are many , but what is worrying BJP leadership is only a couple among them make a winning candidates and denial of ticket to one candidate will leave the other upset affecting the party in the elections. However BJP leaders have narrowed down their choice to two candidates and they are waiting for Sriramulu’s entry into BJP as they want to seek his opinion before finalizing the candidate . BJP sources said party high command has left the choice to former CM B SYeddyurappa who is said to be inclined to allot ticket to former minister Rajugowda who is joining the party on Friday at a rally in Gulbarga addressed by Narendra Modi. Midst of these two serious contending parties JDS has adopted wait and watch policy and its leaders are said to be eyeing on the leaders who fail to get a ticket in Congress.
