Hyderabad: Hyderabad Parliament member and AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi on Sunday launched the LEARN Project, a unique initiative for Hyderabad’s youth to participate in Parliamentary democracy and set the agenda for the 2019 elections. Any college student who is a resident of Hyderabad may participate in the project by registering on http://learnproject.in
Owaisi has been a strong advocate for increased participation of youth in Parliamentary politics. In the previous Parliament session, he even introduced a Private Members’ Bill to reduce the age of contestants for Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections to 20 years. At present, about 50 per cent of India’s population is below the age of 25 and 65 per cent of the population is below the age of 35.
LEARN Project will create a platform for young people and help them voice their opinions, suggestions and objections on the Parliamentary democratic system. The project will include special activities for youth through which they can engage directly with Asaduddin Owaisi. These activities will include Youth Baithaks, Youth Parliaments, Townhall events and Heritage Walks.
“Our youth need to know how to use the Constitutional tools in order to strengthen Indian democracy and MPs need to know what young people expect from them. LEARN Project is my effort to create a platform for your aspirations and visions,” the MP had tweeted earlier.
He also tweeted “Democracy doesn’t work on passive voters alone, active participation is essential. 65% of India is below 35 years, LEARN Project is my effort to learn from youth about their aspirations. The project will provide youth with opportunities to set the agenda for the next five years”
