The Aam Aadmi Party will contest over 350 Lok Sabha seats and will put up candidates against political leaders “who have become symbols of corruption and criminalisation.”
“We have received reports from our State conveners and based on the response from different States, it has been decided that the Aam Aadmi Party will contest more than 350 seats in the Lok Sabha election,” senior party leader and executive committee member Sanjay Singh said here on Thursday.
The party will make “corruption and criminalisation of politics” the major issues in the Lok Sabha election.
“There are 162 MPs with criminal cases registered against them. Of these, 73 MPs have cases related to heinous crimes. The party will try to field candidates against them,” he added.
Asked whether the party will field candidates against Ministers accused in the 2G spectrum case, he said the party would put up candidates against 14 Ministers against whom there are serious charges of corruption. “Those charged in the 2G spectrum case are among them.”
The executive committee meeting, the second in a month, discussed strategies for the general election. It also discussed appointment of election “prabharis” (in charge) in every State.
