The Gulbarga police on Tuesday arrested five people in connection with a triple murder over a land dispute, at Mugnur village in Sedam taluk in Gulbarga district on Sunday noon.
A 15-year-old dispute between two families over nine acres of land in Mugnur village turned ugly on Sunday, said Alokkumar, Inspector General of Police (North-eastern range).
Addressing presspersons in Gulbarga on Tuesday, Mr. Kumar said that the deceased, Devaraya Kolli, 60, his wife Kaalamma, 53, and his cousin brother Rajshekar Kolli, 24, were attacked with an axe and wooden sticks by a group of four and beaten to death while they were working in their field at noon on Sunday. Three others of the family, including Adiveppa, Jagamma and Bheemaraya, sustained severe injuries and were admitted to district hospital.
The police had formed four teams and arrested the accused, including Chandrakant Kalaal and Mallikarjun Kalaal, near Harsur village in Chitapur taluk, while Lakshmaiah Elger and Chandramma Kalaal were arrested near Gadikeshwar village in Chincholi taluk. The police arrested Narayan Kalaal at Yelahanka in Bengaluru.
Though Chandramma was not present in the field during the heinous crime, she hatched the conspiracy to kill the members of Kolli family.
The police recovered lethal weapons and motorcycles from the scene of murder. The police team was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 10,000 for nabbing the five accused within 24 hours of the crime.
